About US
Who Are We?
Although it started as a project for a Climate and Culture class, this organization has become what it is today through passion and action. We sincerely believe in the right that everyone has to move where they choose, and this should include climate refugees. The current UN definition of migrant does not mention anything about climate refugees, while it is increasingly becoming a larger and larger issue.
We are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization whose goal is to help climate change refugees gain the right to open migration, the right to accessible and safe passage, and the right to resources needed to survive once they arrive in a host country. This is not to say that we should not work towards mitigation of environmental factors that cause migration, but rather that migration is and will be inevitable and we must have both mitigation and adaptation. See our initiatives section to learn more about the specific goals we are working towards.
What are Climate Refugees/Migrants?
Climate refugees, or climate migrants, are people who are forced to leave their home due to effects of the climate crisis. This can include horrible disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, monsoons, and other large events. It can also include gradual changes, such as sea level rise taking away land, crop failure due to changing temperatures, and more. For more information on climate change and climate refugees, visit the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and their page on climate change and disaster displacement.
